Checking In
This summer seems to be just gearing up. I feel like once my birthday passes, I get really reflective. Cancer season is all about the feels, and I really felt them today. Earlier today we were blessed with a new moon in Cancer too, so all of this tracks. Thanks to one of my favorite apps and Instagram accounts @chaniapp, I took some time today to write out my wants and also what I’m calling forth. I suggest you do the same.
What I’m Reading
Reese Witherspoon Is Starting A New Chapter — Hats off to Leah Chernikoff and Harper’s Bazaar for this engaging cover story. The reporting is so well done, and honestly, I really walked away loving The Morning Show so much more than I already do.
Drew Barrymore Is Figuring It Out Live — I aspire to have the energy and biting-ness that E. Alex Jung exudes in his writing. There’s something about the rhythm of this cover story!
Lil Wayne Is So Prolific He Hardly Remembers ‘Tha Carter III’ — Wayne is one of my favorite rappers of all time. Andre Gee bodied this interview, it’s digestible and quite enjoyable.
Roy Wood Jr. Doesn’t Know Either — This read gave me a glimpse into Roy Wood’s life, and that’s why I’m obsessed with it.
Shows I Love RN
With Love — In case you’re not aware, Amazon Prime’s With Love did it again with its beautiful family-centric storytelling. I won’t include any spoilers, but Lily played by Emeraude Toubia took my breath away almost every scene because she reminded me of me lol. I’m a hopeless romantic. The way Jorge Jr. (Mark Indelicato), her brother took her to task this season shook me to my core. And that ending!
Run The World — The newest season of Starz’ Run The World didn’t disappoint, instead, it superseded all of my expectations. Renee (Bresha Webb) was the standout star this go-round, and I truly enjoyed watching her shine (check out my story with her here). The storytelling was A1 — I really was fixated on how each character’s vantage point came across as relatable this season. There were serious moments and hilarious moments, but overall I will always be a part of the Run The World hive.
The Bear — Marcus (Lionel Boyce) and Richy (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) stole my heart this season. Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) added an air of reflection/anxiousness that was the heartbeat of the show. Also! The emotional moments of S2 of The Bear were TRIGGERING. I had to pause for about a day before I tuned back into the episode titled “Fishes.” Jamie Lee Curtis and Sarah Paulson stole the shine in that epi by the way. (Read this stellar NYT profile on Moss-Bachrach).
What I Can’t Stop Obsessing Over
I woke up this morning to a bunch of emails, End Clothing is having a massive sale that ends at midnight (there’s an extra ten percent too with a code). I decided to comb through the sale to find some goodies. I also added some must-haves from Net-A-Porter and SSENSE too. (End Clothing picks have a star next to their pricing).
This Knwls Harley Denim Corset Top ($142) is v sexy, Daily Paper’s Efeah Shorts are insanely good for throwing on ($46*), and I feel like this Adidas x Wales Bonner Jamaica Away Kit is on brand with this “soccer core” moment we’re living through ($59*), you can pair them with these Adidas x Wales Bonner sneakers ($180). Louisa Ballou’s Plunge Swimsuit is simply put: excellent ($122*). I really need this Rick Owens Rent Short Skirt ($343*), I can envision them with these killer Ferragamo Black Elina Sandals, $542. Oscar De La Renta’s Gold Plated Necklace ($250) >. Last but certainly not least, I have had this By Far Pink Dulce Bag on my wishlist on SSENSE for so long ($120).
Robyn’s Picks
This week I’ve got some picks from Mahalia, Joy Postell, Maeta, Pip Millett, Maeta, and more.
